Position Overview:
We are looking for a Shop Assistant to provide general support across various shop operations. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking practical experience in a mechanical or electrical manufacturing setting. The role offers flexibility for students or those seeking part-time hours, with the potential for growth within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the assembly of mechanical and electrical components under direct supervision.
- Perform parts cleaning and pressure washing tasks as required.
- Build pallets and crates for shipping, ensuring proper packaging and labeling.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including weekly shop maintenance and general cleaning duties.
- Replenish supplies such as paper and other shop necessities, and manage recycling bins.
- Accurately record time spent on each job, ensuring proper time tracking for invoicing purposes.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the safe operation of forklifts and other shop equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow.
- Take on additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma (Grade 12) preferred. Courses or training in mechanical or electrical technology are advantageous.
Experience:
- Previous experience in mechanical/electrical assembly or metal fabrication is a plus, but not required.
- Forklift certification is required prior to or upon hiring.
- Experience using pneumatic tools is beneficial.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and assembly instructions.
- Strong mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to safely lift up to 35 lbs and perform manual tasks.
- Strong communication skills (both written and spoken).
- Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
