Position Overview:
Job Purpose:
As a strategic leader within the materials and development team, the Trims Manager will be responsible for driving innovative, sustainable, and commercially viable trim and packaging solutions. This role bridges creative vision with operational excellence, translating conceptual direction from Design and Marketing into tangible trim developments that meet both aesthetic and functional demands.
About The Role:
- Concept Execution: Interpret high-level creative direction from Design and Marketing to develop trim and packaging solutions in close collaboration with suppliers, balancing innovation, functionality, and commercial feasibility.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong, trust-based relationships with cross-functional partners including Merchandising, Design, PDE, QA, PIC, Sourcing, Marketing, Brand and Sustainability. Serve as a strategic partner to ensure alignment on trims + packing initiatives with company - wide objectives.
- Commercialization Process: Partner with cross-functional team leaders to identify, define, and implement an optimized trims commercialization process, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and scalability across all programs.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a global team of trims + packaging developers. Manage day-to-day operations while fostering a high-performance culture focused on creativity, accountability, reporting and timely execution.
- Creative Integration: Ensure seamless integration of Snow Goose capsules into the trims toolkit as needed, maintaining design integrity and development timelines.
- Innovation Culture: Champion a culture of creativity and innovation within the development team. Encourage collaborative problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking to meet evolving product and consumer needs.
- Trims Expertise: Act as the internal trims expert, providing guidance on material selection, application, and best practices. Serve as the go-to resource for toolbox trims and new developments.
- Strategic Roadmapping: Partner with the Director of Materials Research & Innovation to shape the materials roadmap, identifying opportunities for new trims aligned with future product and sustainability goals.
- Sustainable Innovation: Collaborate with external partners and industry experts to research and recommend new sustainable trims solutions, contributing to the company’s broader environmental commitments.
- Trim Evaluation: Assess needs for new and carryover trims, delivering thoughtful recommendations to Design and Leadership with a focus on innovation, function, and sustainability.
- Presentation Standards: Oversee the quality and impact of all trims presentations and showcases, ensuring they reflect the brand’s high standards and creative direction.
- Library Management: Co-manage the materials library in partnership with Fabric and Color Development teams, ensuring up-to-date and organized trims resources.
About You:
- Bachelor's degree with a focus on product development or design
- Minimum of 5+ years' experience working with trim suppliers, and 3rd-party testing facilities, integrating design thinking to drive innovation.
- Experience and leadership of a diverse, global team
- Technical knowledge and understanding of trims and product development and manufacturing technologies, with a passion for sustainable product development.
- Passion for building sustainable products using best-in-class trims + packing
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with a keen understanding of research principles and a curiosity about exploring new knowledge
- Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, able to prioritize day-to-day work activities according to department/business needs and consistently exhibiting Canada Goose's values.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with a high level of flexibility to adjust to change within a fast-paced, creative, and innovative team environment.
- High attention to detail
Working Conditions:
- Combination of home and office environment.
- Approximately 10% international and domestic travel required for supplier meetings and material development initiatives.
