About the Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia: AHANS is a non-profit housing provider that operates throughout the province. About the Role: AHANS is looking for a capable maintenance and construction minded individual to join our team. You must have a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in general maintenance within a residential setting. Working knowledge of a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general finishing are required. Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision. This position plays a major role in our general repairs and maintenance, preventative upgrades, accessibility improvements, energy efficiency programs and Health and Safety programs. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to multi task and prioritize duties independently.

Primary Duties Include:
· Cleaning and refurbishing vacant units.
· Plaster/drywall repair and installation.
· Painting units & corridors.
· Removing garbage & heavy debris.
· Kitchen cabinetry and window screen repair.
· Cleaning heat pumps & air exchangers.
· Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on heating, plumbing, and electrical systems and appliances.
· Installing/ repairing interior entrance and closet doors, replacing deadbolts & passage sets.
· Clearing clogged drains and toilets.
Accessory Duties:
· Coordinating inspection and site visits with contractors.
· Working with property management team to meet tenant needs.
· Attending team meetings as needed.
· Emailing and reporting as necessary using Yardi Breeze property management software.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
· Work well under pressure with the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
· Physically demanding — combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching and kneeling.
· Weight handling up to 50 lbs.
Typical Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am until 4:30pm. On-call and after-hours work required. On-call hours are assigned on a rotating basis.
Required Experience:
Handyman or maintenance experience of 5 years or more.
Working knowledge of a Property Management software would be an asset. Knowledge of, and willingness to engage in, Trauma Informed Practices.
