About the job

We hold our leaders to high standards because we believe in their potential to drive meaningful change. In the Ontario Public Service, leadership means showing up with authenticity, acting with integrity, and having the courage to do what's right—even when it's hard.

As a leader, you'll be expected to create a team culture that encourages innovation, supports collaboration, and champions inclusion. You'll help build a diverse, anti-racist, and accessible workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to thrive.

Leadership is about impact—and in this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful one. You will:
  • Manage a team responsible for administering all aspects of the ministry's year-round, multi-year area maintenance contract, including planning, procuring, and delivering ancillary preservation maintenance contracts and minor capital work, including proposed expansion of the Central Region network.
  • Oversee contractor-led maintenance activities throughout the year, including summer and winter operations, traffic signal, highway lighting and sign maintenance, road patrol, bridge inspection & maintenance, vegetation control, line painting, and repair of guiderails and crash attenuation systems.
  • Lead the ministry's response to program-related emergencies and both planned (e.g., winter operations, FIFA 2026) and unplanned events (e.g., major accidents, hazardous spills, severe weather), ensuring timely and coordinated action.
  • Represent the ministry on local and municipal emergency management response teams, working closely with the OPP and other emergency service providers to support public safety and infrastructure resilience.

Meet Your New Team

The Central Maintenance Office provides oversight to highway maintenance operations across the provincial highway network in the region. Activities include supervision of the different maintenance contracts to ensure consistent service levels across the entire network, infrastructure repairs, pavement markings, guiderails, etc. The office also reviews winter maintenance strategies and explores innovations for improvements. We also play a role in providing responses to public, stakeholder and partner questions on maintenance issues across the highways in this region.
