Ontario Health is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Privacy Lead to oversee the privacy program for the screening program. Reporting to the Manager, Privacy, this role ensures alignment with Ontario Health’s enterprise privacy framework and compliance with PHIPA requirements.
The Privacy Lead will embed privacy best practices and Privacy by Design principles into screening operations, while supporting evolving regulatory needs and business initiatives.
This role involves leading privacy advisory services, conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), managing privacy risks, and mentoring privacy colleagues. The Privacy Lead will collaborate with internal teams including Legal, Information Security, and Analytics, and play a key role in fostering a culture of privacy across the organization.
Here is what you will be doing:
- Operate and evolve the screening privacy program in alignment with Ontario Health’s enterprise privacy framework
- Ensure compliance with PHIPA and contractual obligations
- Embed Privacy by Design principles into operations and new initiatives
- Support triennial IPC reporting and maintain SOPs for operational compliance
- Monitor program effectiveness, manage incidents, and address privacy risks
- Provide privacy advisory services and conduct PIAs for new projects
- Collaborate with Legal, Information Security, and other teams on data protection
- Mentor privacy colleagues and support training initiatives
- Stay current on privacy legislation, trends, and emerging issues
Here is what you will need to be successful
Education and Experience:
- Hold an undergraduate degree in law, business administration, public administration, or related disciplines, or equivalent education/experience with evidence of continuing professional development in privacy.
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or equivalent designation is an asset
- Minimum 4 years of relevant privacy, legal, or compliance experience
- At least 2–3 recent years in public sector or healthcare privacy would be an asset
- Experience leading privacy programs, breach management, and risk mitigation
- Proven track record conducting PIAs and managing privacy initiatives
- Familiarity with screening processes and Prescribed Person requirements
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of PHIPA, FIPPA, and privacy best practices
- Understanding of privacy trends, compliance models, and emerging issues
- Familiarity with Prescribed Entity/Person roles under PHIPA
- Strategic planning and risk management capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to engage diverse internal partners and present complex information clearly
