We’re looking for a dedicated and organized Lead ECE to join our team at Comox Valley Aboriginal Head Start Preschool. About the Role
As the Lead ECE, you’ll be responsible for the daily operations of our preschool program — ensuring a safe, engaging, and culturally rich learning environment. You’ll guide curriculum planning, mentor staff, support families, and ensure compliance with licensing and safety protocols. You will also help incorporate Indigenous knowledge and values into programming that supports the whole child.
What You’ll Do
- Work 35–40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Communicate timely updates on programming, events, and closures to staff and families
- Develop and adapt curriculum collaboratively to meet children’s diverse needs
- Maintain records such as attendance, incidents, and nation representation
- Prepare newsletters and contribute to website content
- Ensure health, safety, and licensing protocols are followed
- Support referrals and developmental documentation for children
- Foster respectful and culturally sensitive communication with families
- Complete required reports for IELCC and AHSABC with appropriate approvals
- Promote and follow UIWONA Employee Handbook policies
- Administrative & Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coordinate with All-Programs Administrator on licensing and funding documentation
- Manage registration data and documentation confidentially
- Record incidents accurately and maintain emergency planning documentation
- Mentor staff, volunteers, and students with professionalism and care
- Lead team meetings, coordinate coverage, and supervise transportation
- Model respectful communication and collaboration with all individuals on site
- Maintain inclusive practices and IEP documentation for children with additional needs
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered ECE Diploma (2 years) or more
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory ECE role
- Valid First Aid with CPR Level C
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Physically able to lift up to 40 pounds (18 kg)
- Demonstrated success as an Early Childhood Educator
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
