JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of the Territorial Stewardship Division, the Land and Resource Coordinator will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to collect and manage natural resource data, conduct technical analyses, develop land management options, and facilitate the successful implementation of land stewardship and wildfire management projects. The ideal candidate will have strong project coordination skills, a deep understanding of Indigenous land values and environmental stewardship practices, and experience working directly with Indigenous communities and external agencies.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect, organize and analyze spatial and non-spatial natural resource and wildfire risk data to inform land management planning.
- Develop land management options and provide expert advice to OKIB leadership and decision-makers.
- Coordinate and facilitate wildfire risk reduction projects, including planning, permitting, implementation, and reporting.
- Engage directly with OKIB community members, provincial/federal agencies, industry stakeholders, and other Indigenous Nations to support land management initiatives.
- Integrate Syilx traditional ecological knowledge into land and resource management strategies.
- Prepare technical reports, briefings, proposals, maps, and other materials to support internal and external communications.
- Represent OKIB at technical working groups, committees, project meetings, and community engagement sessions.
- Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, agreements, and OKIB policies.
- Provide advice to statutory decision-makers on land and resource management issues.
- Support the identification and application for funding opportunities to enhance land stewardship programs.
- Perform all duties & responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies & procedures
- All persons employed by the OKIB may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties
- Participates in community events as requested
- Performs other duties as required
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
You have education, experience, or an equivalent combination may be considered. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, have a willingness to contribute to a team and an excellent communicator.
Education
- Post-secondary education in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Forestry, Geography, Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of wildfire risk reduction practices, Indigenous stewardship principles, and applicable environmental and land-use legislation.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies related to land and resource management.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in land/resource management, wildfire management, or environmental stewardship, preferably working with Indigenous communities.
- Strong technical skills in data management, analysis, and reporting; GIS experience is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge and respect for Syilx Okanagan values, cultural practices, and land connection are considered strong assets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, facilitation, and community engagement.

- Ability to multi-task, work on various projects simultaneously, and adhere to tight deadlines while staying on track.

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE
$26.00 - $32.00 per hour dependant on education and experience
