Brazeau County is looking for a temporary Labourer to join our Public Works Maintenance team from June to November. You will receive job and safety training and be provided personal protective equipment.

This labourer’s primary responsibility is to provide general labourer duties as part of the maintenance labourer crew.
Responsibilities:
- Performs general labour including brushing, fencing, debris removal, painting, trenching, pipeline exposure, sign placement, repair, etc.
- Crack sealing on paved roads within the County during the summer season.
- Flagging as required.
- May be required to operate light equipment including skid steer, bobcat, or mower tractor.
- Must be willing to work as a successful team member, and work independently at times.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County’s policies and administrative directives, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
- Overtime and weekend work will be required as necessary for operational needs.
- Shift work may be implemented as required, this may include emergency response call-outs.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
- May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.
Competency Areas:
Education/Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licenses/Certifications/Designation:
- A valid Class 5 License is required
- A satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract is required
Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:
- Labourer or light equipment experience is considered an asset but not required.
- A strong service focus with good verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively.
- Ability to carry out physical labor for duration of a shift.
- Ability to follow direction given by supervisory staff.
- Knowledge of road construction or maintenance is preferred
- Mechanically inclined
- Basic computer skills are required
Working Conditions:
- This position is subject to inclement weather and road conditions in all seasons.
Physical Requirements:
- Labourer activities require considerable physical effort such as moving, standing, lifting, or pulling awkward objects. Activities may involve high repetition of work such as digging or lifting.
Shift and Rate of Pay:
- Grid 1A – 1D ($22.70 - $25.14 per hour)
- Designated as Temporary, Full-Time – 40 hours per week
- Season is approximately from mid-June to mid-November
- Hours of Work are per the Collective Agreement
- The three month probationary period applies
- Area of work encompasses the Brazeau County area
