Gradient Wind Engineering Inc. is a wind engineering consulting firm providing expertise in all aspects of wind engineering, building dampers, structural vibrations, and acoustics. We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate for a Junior Wind Scientist - Structural position with our firm in Ottawa, Ontario.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing wind tunnel test data, structural aerodynamics, structural vibration, wind climate study, building and structural dampers as well as researching and developing in the areas of wind engineering, structural dynamics, structural dampers and related topics. The details of the tasks are described below. This is a fulltime position with an initial evaluation period. With time, this position will grow into a Wind Scientist or Wind Engineer position, where the successful candidate will lead and manage wind engineering projects and perform technical research.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Review and analyze wind tunnel test data for structural wind tunnel tests and cladding pressure measurements for buildings and structures;
- Analyze wind-induced building and structural dynamics;
- Write wind tunnel test reports for structural wind loads, occupant comfort due to building motion, cladding and components;
- Analyze aerodynamic stability analysis of slender structures, human-induced vibration of structures;
- Analyze statistics of wind climate data;
- Design and test supplemental damping systems to control excessive building motion;
- Develop software for wind engineering applications; and
- Conduct research and write papers to further the field in wind engineering, structural dynamics, building and structural dampers and related topics.
- Developing, configuring and operating data acquisition systems and measurement instrumentation.
- Vibration measurement and/or analysis
- Programming in MATLAB and Simulink.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in Civil, Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering
- Excellent competency with MATLAB
- Competency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks is an asset
- Experience in wind engineering and/or structural dynamics is an asset
- Strong written and spoken skills in English.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines
