Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Machinist will be responsible performing assigned tasks safely and efficiently by regularly using various machines & hand tools.
You'll Do:
- Be a key player in a company-wide continuous improvement effort
- Read and interpret blueprints and perform precise machining operations based on project specifications
- Make parts using large and small lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to exacting standards and tight tolerances by verifying dimensions using precision measuring instruments
- Calibrate measuring instruments to ensure accuracy
- Inspect and test completed products to ensure that they meet quality standards
- Utilize knowledge and skills to recognize opportunities for improvements and savings
- Work with other trades in a flexible team environment to achieve greater efficiency and productivity
- Perform all duties in accordance with work safe practice
You have:
- A valid journeyman or inter-provincial certification is required
- Experience working in a pulp or paper mill or in a job machine shop using machining equipment
- Considerable knowledge of metal properties, machining methods and shop mathematics; numerical ability to compute dimensions; tapers, cutting angles, tool settings, feed rates and machine speeds
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Commitment to working safely and creating a safe workplace
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work independently with little supervision
- Flexible availability for overtime opportunities
- The desire to learn, grow, and succeed
Compensation Package:
- The hourly pay rate for this position will follow the collective agreement between Unifor 1115 and Cariboo Pulp & Paper Company at the current rate of 48.66/hour.
- Outstanding benefits package including medical, dental, pension, life insurance, disability, accident insurance, vacation, and holidays.
