Job Description
WHAT'S THE JOB?
The Off-Site Janitorial & Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising janitorial operations at off-site work locations, ensuring that food handling and delivery processes meet HACCP standards. This role ensures safe, hygienic, and compliant working and living conditions for employees at remote field sites. The Supervisor leads a team, ensures compliance with client and company standards, and supports the overall operational excellence of the Nunavut project. Ideal candidates will have strong hospitality experience, particularly in areas such as janitorial, food service supervision, and inventory management. This position requires fly-in/fly-out travel from Edmonton, Alberta or Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, to the project site in Nunavut, with potential for weather-related delays or logistical challenges.
The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a Nunavut camp setting with the following amenities:
- All meals and accommodations are provided
- Travel is provided to and from the site locations from a designated hub location in Edmonton, AB
- Private room with cable television
- Access to Wi-Fi
- Access to laundry facilities and detergents
- Access to a gym and common areas
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate janitorial staff assigned to off-site or satellite project areas (e.g., exploration camps, field units).
- Ensure all facilities and accommodations are kept clean, sanitized, and in line with company and client expectations.
- Conduct scheduled inspections of off-site sites, documenting results and implementing corrective actions.
- Manage janitorial supplies, PPE, and consumables, ensuring safe use, storage, and transport.
- Develop and communicate cleaning schedules and assign responsibilities to staff.
- Provide training on safe chemical handling, equipment operation, and compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
- Ensure all food handling, packaging, and transportation for off-site crews meet HACCP protocols.
- Monitor compliance with cold chain requirements for prepared meals and transported goods.
- Conduct audits of off-site food service operations, verifying temperature logs, storage conditions, and labelling.
- Train staff on HACCP principles and corrective actions in the event of a deviation.
- Liaise with culinary and logistics teams to ensure consistent food safety standards from kitchen to delivery point.
- Manage Inventory for off-site food service locations and oversee the corresponding processes.
- Lead and support a team in challenging and remote environments, ensuring a positive, safety-first culture. • Prepare reports on janitorial performance, HACCP audits, and compliance findings.
- Act as the point of contact for clients on off-site janitorial and food safety matters.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to raise service quality and efficiency.
- Support vehicle inspections and report accordingly.
Physical Demands:
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders and stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Work with arms above shoulder height
- Should be able to drive in remote Arctic locations, NU and NWT
Working Conditions:
- Fly-in/fly-out position based in a remote Arctic camp, with potential for weather-related travel delays.
- Shared accommodations and meals are provided while on site.
- Extended periods away from home; rotational schedule required.
- Exposure to Arctic weather conditions, particularly October to May, requires proper PPE and winter gear.
- This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to drug & alcohol testing as per company policy.
- Must comply with all safety and sanitation standards established by the client and company.
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years supervisory experience in janitorial or food service operations (remote or industrial environment preferred).
- Certification in Food Safety/HACCP (Safe Check, Smart Serve, or equivalent).
- WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain before deployment).
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel between sites as required, and a clean driver’s abstract.
- Flexibility to work rotational schedules in Arctic environments.
Other Skills and Competencies:
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience in janitorial or facilities services.
- Strong understanding of sanitation practices, HACCP, and occupational health & safety standards.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and reporting tools.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work respectfully with diverse teams, including Indigenous and Inuit staff.

Work schedule and remuneration:
Janitorial and Food & Beverage Supervisors work on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on/2 weeks off (84 hours per week while on site). Site locations are in remote settings, requiring either air travel to site, or via ground on our shuttle. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis and include a starting rate of $22.50 ($33.75/hour after 40 hrs).
