Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is seeking a sessional faculty member - Educational Developer - to guide faculty in the educational use and application of Generative AI. This role is a key part of the TRU Collaboratory, a joint initiative of the Library, the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), Learning Technology and Innovation (LT&I), and IT Services. The Collaboratory is both a virtual hub and a dedicated computer lab designed to help TRU faculty and staff explore the impact of Generative AI on teaching, research, administrative tasks, and academic integrity. This sessional faculty member will play a vital role by:
- Working directly with CELT, LT&I, and Library teams to co-develop, co-lead, and assess initiatives that advance digital pedagogy and educational technology innovation.
- Guiding faculty in incorporating Generative AI strategies into their course and curriculum design, including supporting faculty lectures and presentations.
- Co-creating essential digital literacy resources that align with the BC Post-Secondary Digital Literacy Framework, promoting the responsible and ethical use of Generative AI tools, with a strong focus on accessibility, academic integrity, and respecting Indigenous knowledge.
- Collaborating with the IT Services Generative AI Support Team to co-create relevant programming for TRU support staff and administrators.
- Maintaining expertise in the evolving landscape of AI pedagogy and ethics, coordinating evaluations to continuously improve the use of Generative AI in programs and contribute to broader university objectives.
- Efficiently managing the Collaboratory's physical space, ensuring a balanced schedule of instructional workshops, drop-in sessions, and support for specific faculty and departmental requirements.
- Collaborating with IT Services to oversee the Library Collaboratory, ensuring all available software is current, upgraded, and fully supports the instructional needs of those utilizing the space.
Required
- Master's degree in related field
- Three (3) years' experience with making pedagogical choices
- Experience in working with large language models (LLMs)
Desired
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in adult education, particularly with respect to innovative pedagogies, learning outcomes, applied learning, online learning, and high impact practices in post-secondary teaching and learning.
- Demonstrable ability in coaching and mentoring others in both individual and group contexts.
- Ability to facilitate teaching and learning discussions and decision-making in a variety of learning spaces
- Ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary contexts.
- Potential to support faculty in demonstrating scholarly teaching practices
- Ability to work respectfully and collegially with faculty, staff, and management in face-to-face and digital environments.
