Scope:
Moira Place Long-Term Care Home is currently accepting applications for a 12–18 month contract position as Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead. This role serves as an important member of our long-term care leadership team. The IPAC Lead will be our in-home IPAC expert, responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of an Infection Control Program that meets both AON’s and legislative requirements. The IPAC Lead works closely with our Director of Care to ensure our Home maintains a culture that prioritizes resident care, safety, high-compliance, and accountability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the IPAC program, through coordinating, implementing, and monitoring the Home’s Infection Prevention and Control policies, practices, and education
- Participate in the development and implementation of infection surveillance programs, monitoring compliance through routine audit processes
- Collaborate with the local Public Health Unit to manage outbreaks, leading response efforts in coordination with the Director of Care
- Develop and deliver education programs on infection prevention and management practices to employees, in accordance with identified needs, legislation, and company standards
- Monitor the compliance of staff regarding such things as the proper use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene practices, and effective cleaning and disinfectant protocols
- Monitor and analyze trends in infections and outbreaks, associated risk factors and current IPAC strategies, pursuing continuous quality improvement and making recommendations for changes when necessary. Provide reports to the DOC, senior management, and the IPAC Committee
- Coordinate immunization programs, mask fit testing, and other IPAC initiatives
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- Education and experience in infection prevention and control practices including infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, data collection and trend analysis, outbreak management, microbiology, adult education, epidemiology, and program management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate information and insights to others
- Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Post-secondary education in nursing, microbiology, medical technology, epidemiology, and/or other health sciences is preferred
- Current RN or RPN registration with the College of Nurses or eligibility for temporary or permanent license is considered an asset
- Must be willing to obtain certification in infection control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology within 3 years, paid by the Home
- Education or experience working with older adults and the cognitively challenged is an asset
- Experience in a long-term care setting is an asset
- Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team
