IMAX Technician

Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Guest Experience Operations, the IMAX Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and technical performance of IMAX projection and sound systems. They will ensure that each presentation meets the highest standards of quality and reliability, delivering a premium cinematic experience to our guests. This role requires a strong understanding of audiovisual systems, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently. The IMAX Technician will also be required to interface with our guests regularly in our day to day operations as well as during special events and rentals in the IMAX Theatre.
Duties
IMAX Operations:
- Execute special events occurring in the IMAX Theatre.
- Collaborate with bookings and rentals and other internal departments to ensure consistent and seamless service to guests as well as consistent and effective operating procedures are upheld.
- Ensure the facility meets programming requirements; inspect and perform equipment and system maintenance refurbishing as needed and ensuring the theatre is capable of delivering programming compliant with Giant Screen Cinema Association standards.
- Operate and maintain IMAX digital projection and sound systems, ensuring consistent performance and optimal image/sound quality.
- Conduct regular system checks, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance according to IMAX and theatre standards.
- Calibrate and adjust projection and audio equipment to ensure compliance with IMAX presentation specifications.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in real-time during screenings and escalate unresolved problems to IMAX Technical Support if needed.
- Perform system upgrades, firmware updates, and software installations as required.
- Work closely with management and IMAX technical support to maintain a high level of system performance.
- Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, system issues, and repairs.
- Support special events and premieres by preparing and testing equipment and providing on-site technical assistance
- Maintain and support Sparrow system software and hardware as required.
- Partner with the rentals team and external partners to develop and execute events utilizing the technology in the theatre to provide an exceptional experience for the guest.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and technical protocols.
- Train and support staff in basic projection system operation and troubleshooting.

Qualifications
- Proven experience operating and maintaining IMAX digital projection and sound systems, with a strong understanding of video formats, resolutions, and color calibration.
- Familiarity with DCP/KDM content preparation and upload, show scheduling, and IMAX console operations, including automation of playlists with integrated audio and lighting cues.
- Skilled in supporting live-streamed events, including camera configuration, stage lighting, and multi-angle video/audio output. Experience with Sparrow AV systems is an asset.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in time-sensitive environments, with strong collaboration and communication across teams and with external partners.
- Knowledge of camera placement, lighting balance, and audio optimization for high-quality in-room and streamed presentation
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- At least 1 year of experience in operating IMAX or conventional movie theatre.
- Experience trouble shooting technical issues and working with partners to find a solution.
- Strong organizational, planning, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Point of Sale systems.
- Ability to maintain a calm exterior during periods of high volume or high stress.

Wages: PT 180 $20.69 – $25.54 per hour as per the 2023 - 2024 Collective Agreement
Hours of Work: 20-28 hours per week. Must be available weekdays, evenings and weekends. A flexible schedule is required!
