Job Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the HR department, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and objectives. The HR Manager will drive the development of HR strategies, policies, and procedures while managing HR programs, budgets, and compliance with Canadian legislation. The HR Manager will play a vital role in organizational leadership, employee relations, workforce development, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) across all company levels. This role also requires strong knowledge of payroll processes, year-end reporting, and employer remittances, including WCB (Workers' Compensation Board), EHT (Employer Health Tax), and HET (Health and Education Tax).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Strategy: Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of HR strategies to support organizational objectives.
  • Executive Leadership: As part of the Executive Leadership Team, contribute to overall business strategy, providing HR insights to shape organizational direction and growth.
  • Team Management: Lead and manage the HR team, fostering development and ensuring effective delivery of all HR services.
  • Policy Development: Recommend, develop, and implement HR policies and procedures to enhance company performance and ensure compliance with provincial and federal employment and safety laws.
  • Talent Management: Oversee recruitment, employee evaluations, promotions, and disciplinary actions while fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Training & Development: Organize and deliver employee training programs to enhance skills, support career development, increase workforce flexibility, and ensure compliance with OHS standards.
  • Employee Relations: Address and resolve employee conflicts, performance issues, and inappropriate behaviour while ensuring a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • HR & OHS Compliance: Ensure all HR activities and programs meet legislative and organizational standards, including employment law, Occupational Health and Safety regulations, health and safety practices, and diversity and inclusion practices.
  • Occupational Health & Safety: Develop, implement, and monitor OHS programs to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. Collaborate with the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage budgets for HR administration, ensuring resources are used efficiently to support business objectives.
  • Advisory Role: Provide guidance to senior management and employees on HR and OHS-related matters, including compensation, benefits, payroll, year-end reporting, WCB, EHT and HET, and training programs.

Requirements:
  • Education: A post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years at manager level, with at least 3 years as an HR generalist in a multi-disciplined environment.
  • Certifications: Professional HR certification (e.g., CPHR) is required. Certification in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) standards is a bonus.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong understanding of Canadian employment and OHS laws and regulations.
    • Expertise in employee relations, recruitment, compensation, benefits administration, and occupational health and safety programs.
    • Experience with year-end processes and knowledge of WCB, EHT, and HET reporting requirements.
    • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing HR teams.
    • Knowledge of OHS programs, safety audits, and hazard prevention strategies.
    • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong project management and time management capabilities.
    • Ability to provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
    • Proficiency in HR systems and automated software applications.
