Job Title: Housekeeper, Janitor and Food Service Worker – Float
Reports to: Housing Coordinator
Status: Temporary Part Time: 20 hours per week
Location: Varies as required in Penticton
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Housing Coordinator, the Float provides housekeeping, janitorial, and basic food service support across multiple program sites. This role maintains clean, safe, and sanitary environments; assists with meal preparation and service; and adapts to coverage needs for vacations, sick leave, and peak periods.
Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping and Janitorial
- Clean, wash, and disinfect building areas including walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms using methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, and wet mopping
- Handle garbage, recycling, and biohazard materials according to protocols
- Launder and manage linens; restock washrooms and supply areas
- Set up and reset rooms and common spaces; report maintenance and safety hazards promptly
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and in accordance with WHMIS and organizational procedures
Food Service Support
- Assist with basic food preparation, portioning, plating, and service
- Receive, rotate, and store food and supplies; maintain temperature and cleaning logs as directed
- Wash dishes, sanitize kitchen surfaces and equipment, and ensure kitchen cleanliness and organization
- Follow safe food handling practices and respect dietary needs and restrictions
Teamwork, Documentation, and Safety
- Complete daily checklists, logs, and incident or maintenance reports
- Communicate courteously with residents, visitors, and team members; maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, occupational health and safety procedures, and emergency protocols
- Travel between sites and adapt to changing assignments, shifts, and priorities as required
Qualifications
Education
- Grade 10
Training and Experience
- Minimum three month recent related experience in housekeeping, janitorial, and/or food service, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Certificates and Requirements
- Criminal Record Clearance
- Valid First Aid certification
- FoodSafe Certificate
- Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable driver abstract
- Personal and Reliable vehicle that will be used for work with mileage reimbursement
Assets
- Experience in residential, shelter, healthcare, or hospitality settings
Skills and Abilities
- Reliable, organized, and able to follow schedules and written procedures
- Effective communication and teamwork skills with a customer service mindset
- Able to operate cleaning equipment and safely handle chemicals
- Physically able to meet job demands, including standing and walking for extended periods and lifting up to 20–25 kg
- Flexible to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for float coverage
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $21.72-$24.87 per hour
