As the Geospatial Technician, you will create and maintain corporate geospatial data that is required by various City of Calgary business units and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) consultants, utility companies, and Calgary Regional Partners. In this role, you will use ArcGIS Pro, MicroStation, Structured Query Language (SQL), POSSE, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), and various other data technologies for the creation of: cartography, datasets, property and building records, and other spatial data creation and maintenance functions. Primary duties include:
- Create and maintain data sets, maps, presentations, and standard drawings using ArcGIS Pro, FME, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other software.
- Apply knowledge of analysis, cartography, and metadata standards in a GIS environment when creating maps, datasets, and tabular information based on client requests.
- Complete quality assurance according to procedures, manuals, standards and Oracle environment guidelines.
- Apply knowledge of construction utility drawings and interpretation of construction details and block profiles to populate attributes in an Oracle database environment using MicroStation.
- Maintain file management systems; track projects and service time using time management software.
Qualifications
- A completed 2-year diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, Applied GIS, Architectural Technology or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge with ESRI ArcGIS, along with some experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Knowledge in Oracle database including writing SQL statements or knowledge in Arcade and Python will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge with Water, Sanitary and Storm utility drafting will be considered an asset.
- You work effectively individually and in a team environment.
- You demonstrate strong organizational skills to accomplish client and business unit goals and objective.
Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
