Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking to fill several Game Day Production Staff positions covering soccer, hockey, volleyball and basketball game days running from September to March. All positions are casual and require evening and weekend work. This role is ideal for students interested in sports media, journalism, or broadcasting with a passion for sports and knowledge of soccer, hockey, volleyball and basketball.
We are looking for individuals who are outgoing, team players, with a keen interest in learning about sports and production. If you have an interest in behind-the-scenes productions and want to help provide an engaging game day experience for the fans, we want to hear from you!
By applying to this job posting, there will be the potential to be trained and/or work all of the following positions:
Camera Operator
- Setting up and tearing down all camera equipment and troubleshooting as required.
- Delivering high-quality footage for Canada West TV streams and in-game video board.
- Capturing live action footage that aligns with broadcast standards, including tight tracking of gameplay, smooth transitions, and dynamic framing of key moments like attacks, blocks, three-pointers, goals and celebrations.
Stream Operator
- Overseeing the production of MacEwan Griffins home games on Canada West TV.
- Setting up and tearing down production equipment and completing sound/video checks and troubleshooting as required.
- Communicating with camera operators and commentators, directing camera operators and on-air talent, and following the provided script to ensure that every stream meets the quality expectations set by the MacEwan Griffins and Canada West.
Video Board/Replay Operator (Volleyball and Basketball Only)
- Setting up and tearing down production equipment and completing sound/video checks and troubleshooting as required.
- Overseeing game replays to be played back on Canada West TV streams and on the in-gym video board, as well as operating the in-gym video board.
- Communicating with camera operators and in-game public address announcers, following the provided script to ensure that every game meets the quality expectations set by the MacEwan Griffins and Canada West.
Play-by-Play/Colour Commentator:
- Delivering live, real-time narration of the match, including calling the action point by point, providing team context, and highlighting key performances to provide a professional and entertaining broadcast experience.
- Setting up and tearing down broadcast equipment, conducting pre-game audio tests, researching player stats and game storylines ahead of each game, memorizing home team rosters including names, numbers and faces and following the provided script to ensure that every game meets the quality expectations set by the MacEwan Griffins and Canada West.
Public Address Announcer:
- Creating an engaging and exciting atmosphere for fans by delivering clear, enthusiastic live announcements and playing music throughout the game.
- Introducing starting lineups, announces goals, baskets, substitutions, fouls, timeouts, penalties and more.
- Providing important event information such as sponsor messages, halftime promotions, and safety protocols.
- Setting up and tearing down broadcast equipment, conducting pregame audio tests, memorizing home team rosters including names, numbers and faces and following the provided script to ensure that every game meets the quality expectations set by the MacEwan Griffins and Canada West.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent time management and punctuality.
- Strong focus and attention to detail.
- A minimum of a high school diploma.
- Experience in live broadcast production would be considered an asset.
- All skill levels are welcome, and on-the-job training can be provided.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- The ability to work all shifts between Thursday to Sunday afternoons and evenings.
