Overview
ATCO Frontec is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Food Services Manager to lead food service operations at the Canadian Forces Military Staff College in North York. This role requires a strong leader with deep culinary expertise, operational oversight, and a passion for delivering exceptional service in a high-volume, compliance-driven environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of food services in a remote lodge-style setting, supporting military personnel with high-quality, nutritious meals.
Compensation: $70,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Manage food services in strict compliance with Food Service Management Guides, Provincial and Federal regulations.
- Plan and execute menus tailored to clientele, aligned with contract scope and budget requirements.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served to the highest standards while maintaining cost control and effective product usage.
- Conduct monthly inventory and maintain inventory control.
- Order appropriate quantities of food and supplies based on lodge capacity.
- Oversee kitchen staff, ensuring duties are performed professionally and efficiently.
- Adhere to labour matrix and manage labour costs effectively.
- Train, mentor, and guide staff performance across all kitchen roles.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed.
- Inspect facilities and equipment for regulatory compliance and ensure preventative maintenance is completed.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices in accordance with government regulations and company policies.
- Set a strong example in customer service and workplace standards.
- Liaise with clients and maintain positive customer relations.
- Ensure professional communication across all levels of kitchen operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management from time to time.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as an Food Services Manager in a complex kitchen operation.
- At least 3 years of management experience within the last 5 years.
- Diploma or equivalent in Food Management, Culinary Arts, or Hospitality.
- Experience in large-scale facilities such as universities, hospitals, or remote camps is an asset.
- Strong background in menu development and cost control (PNL).
- Proven ability to train, mentor, coach, and guide performance.
- Professional oral and written communication skills in a leadership capacity.
- Innovative and creative problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational, time management, and report writing abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with POS systems.
- Experience in staff scheduling and availability during all kitchen operating hours.
- Must be based in Toronto Area
The successful candidate will be required to complete drug and alcohol testing, as well as obtain criminal background and government security clearance as part of the hiring process.
