POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Early Years Manager, the Family Preventative Worker provides guidance and support to prevent family breakdown and aims at strengthening WFN families. The Family Preventative Worker collaborates with the Family Support Worker to support family-centered interventions embracing syilx values and traditions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in social/human services field/child and youth care or another relevant field
- Minimum (3) three years related work experience with Indigenous Child & Family-related social services
- Must have experience working in Indigenous Family Services & Communities
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
- Acceptable Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector search to be obtained through the province
- Availability of a reliable vehicle and a valid BC Drivers’ License and a have a clean drivers abstract
- Ability to work closely with children, families and community members to ensure inclusion of traditional and cultural knowledge
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation and clients
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
- Establish positive relationships with families to assess their needs
- Assist parents to establish contact and referrals to WFN staff and external agencies to support their needs.
- Provide guidance to parents on court system navigation, including documentation, procedures, and legal processes.
- Maintain accurate client documentation and submit monthly reports
- Provide educational and informational resources to families regarding parenting, guardianship, foster care, and other family related services
- Assists in arranging supervised family visits to support children and family connections
- Works cooperatively with other WFN team members and attends team and staff meetings
- Ensure incorporation of syilx traditions, knowledge, beliefs, values, and best practices
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Early Years Manager
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Knowledge and understanding of intergenerational trauma and trauma informed practices
- Knowledge and understanding of Provincial Social Services
- Proven ability in problem-solving, strategic planning, and conducting thorough research
- Excellent Microsoft 365 skills
- Ability to create reports and forms
- Must have excellent researching and analyzing skills
- Demonstrates confidence in organizational and time management skills.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
