BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE) Faculty, Ecological Restoration.

The program has been designed to advance the science and practice of ecological restoration.
The BSc is a 2-year program (years 3 and 4) and is one of just two Canadian BSc programs in ecological restoration. Students work with our many professional partners on a wide range of applied restoration projects, thereby gaining experience in addressing many current environmental challenges. Graduates have an excellent track record of securing positions with consulting companies, nonprofit organizations, as well as all levels of government including First Nations.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate should have a strong foundation in GIS, remote sensing, and environmental science or related field. Candidates should also have strong field skills, knowledge and experience of research/monitoring design, and preferably experience applying knowledge of the physical sciences within an environmental management/ecological restoration context. Experience with any of the following are also advantageous: watershed assessment, terrain and ecosystem mapping, sediment and soil erosion control.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of MSc in GIS, remote sensing, atmospheric science, Earth system science, geography, environmental science, geoscience, or a related field
- Minimum of three years of experience applying, analyzing, and interpreting geospatial data under an environmental or natural resource discipline
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing tools
- Knowledge of best practices for teaching, advising, and mentoring students in a higher education environment
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Applicants invited for an interview will be required to submit an example of their writing and deliver a presentation for the selection committee
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, which are needed to effectively manage the dynamic conditions and logistics associated with our applied programs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong preference for a demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the post-secondary level in both classroom and field settings
- Experience with online or hybrid course development and delivery
- Strong preference for knowledge of GIS applications related to ecosystems of British Columbia
- Knowledge of and experience with the principles of ecological restoration/environmental management
- Experience teaching and/or working with First Nations
- Experience designing and implementing management treatments through a geospatial lens
- Familiarity with integrating GIS and remote sensing into environmental, atmospheric or earth system science research

Salary Range
Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
