Position Summary

The Facilities Technician, reporting directly to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, will be primarily responsible for assisting with maintenance operations across multiple clinic locations. This role involves contributing to the general upkeep of our facilities and will play a vital part in receiving, assessing, and addressing maintenance requests. The technician will work closely with the Facilities & Maintenance Manager to ensure timely and effective service. On-call availability may be required as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on building systems including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and equipment, as assigned through the Corrigo CMMS.
  • Travel regularly between clinic sites in Edmonton and surrounding areas to carry out maintenance tasks.
  • Complete minor carpentry, painting, and general upkeep of interior spaces and equipment not covered under service contracts.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections of facilities to identify maintenance or safety concerns and submit required reports to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager.
  • Demonstrate initiative by independently identifying and taking ownership of tasks.
  • Inspect facilities to detect mechanical issues or signs of potential system failures.
  • Evaluate and test the functionality of appliances, equipment, and HVAC systems as necessary.
  • Follow all facility protocols, including health and safety guidelines and safe work practices.
  • Support general housekeeping and facility maintenance, collaborating with contractors or property managers as needed, and provide updates and feedback to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  • Identify issues promptly and develop practical, effective solutions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support facility operations.

  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Practical knowledge and/or formal training in trades such as plumbing, electrical, heating, water systems, gas, mechanical, plastering, and painting is required.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting concurrent deadlines.
  • Physically capable of performing job duties that require standing for extended periods, as well as frequent bending, stretching, walking, lifting, and moving of materials or equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Proficient in the use of standard hand and power tools.
  • Comfortable and able to work safely at heights, including the use of ladders.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting building plans, layouts, and infrastructure systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with external contractors and vendors as required.
  • Capable of following instructions and executing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism at all times.
  • Competent in basic to intermediate Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and/or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Corrigo is considered an asset.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required.
  • Must be physically able to perform job duties, including lifting and moving heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Education or hands-on experience in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems is considered an asset.
