Job Overview:

We are currently seeking a reliable and skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of our college campus facilities. This position involves a variety of general maintenance duties, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, groundskeeping, and event setup.

This is an on-call position, and the ideal candidate will be located within a 10 km radius of our Nelson Campus, have reliable commuting options, or plan to relocate prior to the start of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

● Landscaping: Care for outdoor spaces, including mowing lawns, trimming

bushes, planting flowers, and maintaining gardens.

● Repairs: Perform minor repairs on drywall, paint, plumbing, electrical, heating,

and cooling units, as well as furniture and fixtures.

● Event Support: Assist with setup and takedown for campus events as needed.

● Coordination: Coordinate with tradespeople when necessary.

● Snow and Ice Removal: Coordinating with the snow removal company to ensure

the walkways, parking lots, and building entrances are cleared during winter

weather.

● Inventory Management: Keep track of maintenance supplies and tools, and

report needs for replenishment.

● Disposal: Removal of recycling, garbage, and waste.

● Emergency Response: Respond to emergency maintenance requests and assist

with crisis situations when necessary.

● Supplies: Removal / Moving supplies that are too big to be stored in the classrooms

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum of 2 years of related maintenance experience

WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain)

Valid BC Driver’s License

Owns appropriate tools and a reliable vehicle suitable for transporting materials

Must be in good physical condition and able to lift 50 lbs or more

Clear criminal record check required.

Skills and Attributes:

Strong working knowledge of maintenance safety practices

Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Suite

Organized, dependable, and capable of working independently

Responsive and proactive in addressing maintenance concerns
