What is Steamoji?
Steamoji is a maker academy that complements and enriches elementary school education by exposing students to new technologies in fabrication, physical computing, engineering and digital arts while teaching them Steamoji soft-skills, such as design thinking, a growth mindset and entrepreneurship. We provide afterschool STEAM enrichment programing for kids aged 6-15.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Facilitators to work closely with young children aged 7-11 (grades 2-5) providing individualized support to help them achieve project completion, inspire confidence and enthusiasm in STEAM subjects, and provide a safe and fun atmosphere for children to experiment and develop a growth mindset.
Are you experienced in working with children? Do you enjoy teaching and building problem solving skills in young engineering minds? Have you mentored youth? Do you like sharing your passion for building things? This could be the role for you. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with young children or siblings with a natural ability to engage and mentor young children keeping them engaged and interested in learning.
We have two shifts to fill for our After School Program.
On Tuesdays we are at Upper Lynn Valley Elementary, located in Lynn Valley. We will be working with grades 2-4 doing beginning design work for in Tinkercad for 3D printing. The class starts at 3:00 you would need to be there at 3:00. The class finishes at 4:30 with usually about 10 min of clean up time.
On Wednesdays we are at Ross Road Elementary, also in Lynn Valley. Working with grades 2-5 doing advanced 3D design work in Tinkercad for 3D printing. The class starts at 2:50 and you would need to be there by 2:45 to set up the room. The class finishes at 4:20 and there is usually about 10 min of clean up time.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the deployment of the Steamoji curriculum
- Contribute to company culture and Steamoji core values
- Review instructional videos before each session
- Work with 4-6 apprentices to complete missions
- Assist and guide apprentices during the making process of Steamoji projects
- Assist apprentices with tools and equipment and ensure safety in the process
- Create and share video artifacts and pictures to provide feedback to parents
Qualifications:
High School or University students seeking a part-time position working with young children and learning basic science principles in the process.
- Energetic, fun and enthusiastic individual with a passion for working with younger children
- Ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults
- Team player who works well with others in a collaborative setting
- Interest in technology and willingness to learn basic coding and 3D design
- French not required
This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain valuable work experience. Steamoji is a growing After School Maker Academy and there are other positions and hours available at many locations. The successful candidate will be a valuable asset to our team and play a significant role in shaping the educational experiences of our apprentices.
● 4 hours of paid training is provided and must be completed before Sept 8th.
