Job Overview:
We are seeking a collaborative, organized and adaptable Employment Counsellor for a Temporary Full-Time (37.5hr per week) position. The successful candidate will support youth (16-19) and adults (19+) with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism and FASD through the employment process using both supported employment and customized employment approaches. This role encompasses a wide range of activities, including discovery, job attainment, job coaching, and ongoing job maintenance support.

Job Duties:
Key responsibilities include:
1) conducting assessments to understand the unique needs, skills, and interests of job seekers.
2) Development of individualized employment plans tailored to the strengths and preferences of each person.
3) Assisting job seekers in finding suitable employment opportunities.
4) Building and maintaining relationships with local employers to identify potential job openings.
5) Providing on-site job coaching to help individuals understand job duties, workplace culture, and industry practices.
6) Facilitating communication between employees, employers, and coworkers to promote a supportive work environment.
7) Conducting regular check-ins with both employees and employers to address any issues or concerns.
8) Providing support for managing changes in both work and non-work environments that may impact work performance.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 and one (1) year recent related experience in employment counseling
- Certificate in a directly related human/social service field such as the Employment Counseling Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in employment services
- Experience with job development, implementation and monitoring
- Knowledge of employment attainment services such as Discovery
- Ability to teach employment skill development through facilitated sessions
- Ability to deal with others effectively, manage conflict and advocate for employment equity
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to interact effectively with the individuals in the program
The successful candidate will be required, as necessary, to arrange, organize, and/or provide appropriate means of transportation for the people we support in relation to their duties as well as daily driving with their personal vehicle to perform the duties of the position. Therefore, the successful applicant must have a BC Class 5 license and use of their own vehicle, they must obtain car insurance for business use. The successful candidate may be required, to change workdays/hours depending on needs of the program.
