Overview:Our client, a well-established multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their Halifax team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to work on complex, high-profile building projects across institutional, commercial, and public infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of project delivery, from conceptual design through to construction administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and coordinate electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and life safety systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Prepare electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, load calculations, and cost estimates.
Collaborate closely with internal mechanical, structural, and architectural teams, as well as external consultants and clients.
Conduct site visits and surveys to evaluate existing electrical systems and prepare reports with upgrade or compliance recommendations.
Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and support contract administration during the construction phase.
Ensure electrical systems comply with applicable building codes, CSA standards, CEC (Canadian Electrical Code), and project-specific guidelines.
Stay engaged with project schedules and design deliverables to meet internal and external deadlines.
Participate in design meetings, coordination sessions, and technical discussions with multidisciplinary teams.
Contribute to sustainable design initiatives and integrate energy-efficient technologies where applicable.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum 4–6 years of relevant building electrical systems design experience in the consulting industry.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Nova Scotia or eligible for registration.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical design software (e.g., AGi32, ETAP, or similar); experience with Revit MEP is an asset.
Strong understanding of CEC, CSA, and local building codes.
Experience with power systems, lighting controls, and fire alarm design in institutional or large-scale commercial projects.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable building design is considered an asset.
