Position Summary
The Educational Assistant (EA) will provide full-time, one-on-one support to a blind student integrated into the regular program. This role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to respond sensitively and effectively to the student’s evolving needs throughout the school day
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- assisting a student who has a visual impairment and behavioural challenges
- assisting in the preparation of accessible materials in braille and large print and using other assistive technology to support student development.
- transcribing student work and creating tactile images to enhance comprehension
- familiarizing student with the layout of the school, landmarks and potential obstacles to foster independence
- creating a safe and accessible learning environment by making necessary changes and accommodations
- supporting student during transitions, breaks and recess
- assisting the student with personal care including toileting
Education/Qualifications
- Unified English Braille (27 course training program)
- a two year post secondary program in a related field
- a minimum of two years of related experience preferably in an educational environment
- experience working with a blind individual
- experience working with students with significant behaviour
- excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships NVCI, First Aid
Rate of Pay
$28.19 - $33.17 per hour
