POSITION OVERVIEW
In the position of Dryer Operator in our Edible Division you will make a difference every single day as you ensure the efficient and safe operation of two dryers, producing high-quality powdered egg products. You will strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both dryer operation and sanitation, ensuring that every production lot is processed accurately and on schedule. A critical aspect of this role involves meticulous documentation of all completed tasks. Your precise execution and thorough record-keeping are vital to maintaining our SQF (Safe Quality Food) Food Safety and Quality Program, directly contributing to the safety and excellence of our products.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 12 completion).
- Previous experience in food manufacturing or a similar production environment is a significant asset.
Skills & Abilities:
- Safety Focused:
o Demonstrated ability to operate machinery safely and responsibly.
o Strong understanding and commitment to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, and Personal Safety policies.
o Ability to comply with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Operational Proficiency:
o Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
o Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Forklift Operator's License.
o Capable of performing general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment throughout the shift.
- Communication & Teamwork:
o Proficient in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
o Ability to effectively communicate with managers, supervisors, and team members.
o Capable of working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability:
o Must be available to work flexible hours, including various shifts, occasional weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Safety and Quality Control
- Adherence to Standards: Strictly follow all Safe Quality Food (SQF) program requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and other food safety regulations to ensure the highest standards of product quality and safety.
- Quality Checks: Conduct regular in-process quality checks, including moisture, solids and PH testing as well as physical inspections, to ensure products meet specifications.
- Contamination Prevention: Implement and maintain procedures to prevent cross-contamination of allergens, foreign materials, and microbial hazards.
- Sanitation: Perform thorough cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas in accordance with established sanitation schedules and procedures.
Documentation and Procedures
- Accurate Record-Keeping: Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all production activities, including lot/batch records, quality control logs, downtime, and material usage.
- SOP Adherence: Strictly adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation, production processes, and sanitation, ensuring consistency and compliance.
- Form Completion: Accurately complete all required production and quality control forms, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
Training and Development
- Continuous Learning: Actively participate in all required food safety, quality, and operational training sessions.
- Skill Enhancement: Continuously develop and enhance skills related to equipment operation, troubleshooting, and production processes.
- Peer Support: Assist in the training and onboarding of new team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Safety Protocols: Strictly follow all company health and safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Hazard Reporting: Identify and promptly report any safety hazards, incidents, or near-misses to supervisors.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with relevant food safety regulations (e.g., CFIA), environmental regulations, and company policies.
Process Optimization
- Efficiency Monitoring: Monitor production processes to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and waste reduction.
- Performance Analysis: Contribute to discussions on process improvements and collaborate with supervisors to optimize production line performance.
- Downtime Reduction: Proactively identify and report potential equipment malfunctions or process issues to minimize downtime.
Inventory Management
- Material Handling: Accurately handle and track raw materials, packaging, and finished products, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
- Waste Minimization: Contribute to efforts to minimize material waste and optimize resource utilization.
- Inventory Accuracy: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory counts and reporting discrepancies.
Problem Solving
- Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot minor operational issues with equipment or processes, escalating complex problems to maintenance or supervisors.
- Root Cause Analysis: Participate in investigations to determine the root cause of quality deviations or production inefficiencies.
- Solution Implementation: Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions to address identified issues.
Communication and Collaboration
- Teamwork: Work effectively as part of a production team, collaborating with colleagues, supervisors, and other departments (e.g., Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Warehousing).
- Information Sharing: Communicate effectively regarding production status, challenges, and handovers during shift changes.
- Active Participation: Actively participate in team meetings and discussions, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
Reporting
- Handover Takeover (hoto): Accurately complete and submit daily hoto reports, detailing output, downtime, and any notable events.
- Deviation Reporting: Promptly report any deviations from standard procedures, quality issues, or safety incidents.
Research and Development
- Trial Support: Assist in production trials for new products or processes, accurately following experimental procedures and documenting results.
- Feedback: Provide feedback on the practicality and efficiency of new processes or product formulations during trials.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure the overall cleanliness and organization of the production area.
- Equipment Care: Operate and maintain production equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
