Position Summary
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attains and implements patient meal selection, food preferences, diet changes via Power Orders received & RD referrals given, & enters them in the Computrition system.
- Takes guidance from SLP’s and Dietitians to customize diet orders and process them in the Diet order entry system (Computrition) including CHO counts, strict low sodium and fluid restrictions; food intake records, calorie counts, and supplements.
- Communicates with the Nursing units, SLP’s and RD’s on issues regarding diet order entry, food needs and service quality
- Communicates with the Food Service Supervisor and /or manager on issues regarding order entry system problems, food & service quality or patient satisfaction.
- Diet Technician to consult with menu clerks regarding difficult patient issues that may develop.
- Identifies and alerts RD’s, SLP’s and nursing staff to potential nutrition risk & makes suggestions as to corrective course of action including substituting food items
- Documents all nutrition care on Computrition System, editing and maintaining accuracy of patient diets and food profiles to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
- Documents patient interaction in Cerner in response to referrals from RD’s or patient follow up requests.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Food Supervisor, or Manager of Nutrition and Food Services.
Qualifications
- Minimum grade 12 diploma required.
- Diet Technician or Food Service Worker course minimum required (or 2-year experience as PFS Menu Clerk with Computrition)
- Food Handlers Certification required
- Member of Canadian Food Service Managers Association preferred
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience with therapeutic diets required
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a diet aide or in the diet office area or kitchen of a hospital or LTC institutional food service environment required
Competencies:
- Demonstrated accurate keyboarding skills with a minimum of 50 wpm.
- Demonstrated computer literacy – Microsoft office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multi task efficiently.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated attention for detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve focused outcomes and objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and pleasant under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple deadlines.
