Position Title: Daycare Chef
Reporting to: Daycare Manager
Status: Part-time (6 hours/day), Grant-Funded
Wage: $26/hour
Location: Sk’atsin Child Care Centre – Chase, BC
Start Date: July 2025 (exact date to be confirmed)
Job Summary:
The Sk’atsin Child Care Centre is seeking a reliable and organized Daycare Chef to join our early learning team. This position is responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for young children, maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment, and supporting the centre’s overall health and wellness goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks in accordance with approved menus and nutritional guidelines
- Create monthly menu plans that align with the Canada Food Guide and meet licensing requirements
- Ensure food safety, temperature control, and cleanliness in all food preparation and storage areas
- Maintain inventory of food and kitchen supplies, and submit requests for orders as needed
- Clean and sanitize dishes, cookware, kitchen equipment, and food prep surfaces
- Maintain a regular cleaning schedule and adhere to all food safety protocols and licensing regulations
- Assist with general cleaning duties throughout the daycare as required (e.g., sanitizing toys and equipment)
- Work collaboratively with staff to accommodate allergies, cultural dietary needs, and special food requests
- Follow established food safety and sanitation plans
Qualifications:
- FoodSafe Level 1 (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)
- Experience preparing meals in a commercial or group setting (daycare, school, or community kitchen preferred)
- Knowledge of nutrition and food safety guidelines for children
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Clear criminal record check (including vulnerable sector clearance) required upon hiring
Assets:
- Experience working in Indigenous communities or early learning environments
- Ability to incorporate cultural foods or participate in land-based learning opportunities related to nutrition
