Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of prototype and limited production work in the following areas: Advanced, traditional, and/or CNC type machining, while following all prescribed methods and procedures.
- Safely operates CNC Machines, Lathes, Milling Machines, Grinders, Drill Press, Saws, Presses, Ovens, Pneumatic and Electric hand-held Power Tools
- Performs complex setups, adjustments, and tool changes.
- Jig and fixture design (CAD/CAM and manual), assembly and custom tooling.
- In-depth understanding of CNC machine programming and CAD/CAM integration.
- Programs CNC equipment according to VMAC and industry standards to produce reliable, repeatable machining processes for prototypes, limited production purposes.
- Ability to setup CNC machines and inspect parts as they are manufactured using manual inspection tools as well as probing cycles for machines so equipped.
- Common knowledge and usage of basic dimensional inspection tools for machined parts including but not limited to Bore Gauges, Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gauges, Gauge Blocks, Indicators etc.
- Understands engineering drawings and specifications including GD&T as per ASME Y14.5.
- Communicates with and maintains a good working relationship with Production and Engineering coworkers.
- Communicate design for manufacture improvements to Engineering.
- Performs routine cleaning as defined by VMAC’s 5s recommendations and performs basic preventative maintenance functions on machines, tooling and parts.
- Problem solving abilities with regard to product development and manufacturing.
- Adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.
- Adheres to VMAC’s approved Lean Manufacturing and Quality Control methods.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety and environmental compliance.
- Other duties as required.
- A minimum of secondary school or GED Diploma, or an associate degree in a technical field or trade school.
- Machinist Red Seal or other qualification deemed appropriate by VMAC.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- 3 years of experience in a fast-paced machining environment.
- 2+ years of experience working on CNC Milling Centers and Turning Centers.
- Working knowledge of CNC programming with Fanuc, Heidenhain or similar controls.
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office software Word, Excel and Outlook.
- MasterCAM or other relevant CAM software experience
- Solidworks or other relevant CAD software experience.
