Our unique model combines a full-service Canson Infinity Certified Print Lab with a contemporary art gallery, allowing us to foster meaningful relationships with emerging and established artists while offering exceptional craftspersonship to clients. Shift & Compensation
- Hourly Wage: $26
- Hours: Minimum 20 hours/week (flexible, based on demand)

Position Summary
Join our team at PrintMaker Studio & Gallery 881 as a multi-skilled Part-Time Custom Framer & Fine Art Printing Assistant. This role combines hands-on craftspesronship, client service, and gallery operations.
The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of professional framing experience and a passion for detail, problem-solving, and the arts.
What You’ll Do
Custom Picture Framing (Primary Role)
- Consult with clients on frame design and order entry
- Accurately measure and cut mats, glass, and mouldings
- Join aluminum mouldings and stretch canvases
- Dry-mount artwork using a heat press
- Assemble frames with precision and craftsmanship
- Apply conservation techniques such as shadowboxing and proper artwork handling
- Source and order materials from suppliers
- Maintain a clean, well-organized workspace and showroom
- Assist with order pickups and process final payments
Fine Art Printing (Secondary Role)
- Operate fine art printers and manage print production
- Prepare print-ready files in Photoshop (resolution, sizing, color accuracy)
- Produce archival pigment prints to high professional standards
- Conduct print inspections, mounting, and packaging for delivery or pickup
Customer Service
- Welcome and assist clients in a friendly, professional manner
- Provide expert advice on framing and printing options
- Communicate clearly in person, over email, and by phone
- Support gallery retail sales and foster a welcoming visitor experience
Gallery Assistant
- Assist with exhibition planning, layout, and installation
- Help coordinate artist talks, workshops, and public events
- Support content prep for gallery signage, wall text, and communications
- Contribute to website updates or social media posts
- Engage with visitors to discuss exhibitions and artists
- Assist with gallery inventory and artwork documentation
Gallery Support
- Install and deinstall exhibitions on-site and occasionally off-site
- Handle and transport oversized artworks (up to 6×9 ft and larger)
- Support setup for openings, events, and public programming
- Help maintain clean, professional public-facing spaces
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in custom picture framing
- Demonstrated skills in mat-cutting and canvas stretching
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ability to work independently and calmly under deadlines
- Excellent hand skills and creative problem-solving abilities
- Professional, client-focused communication style
Preferred Qualifications
- Education or training in Fine Arts, Interior Design, or related field
- Familiarity with contemporary and traditional design styles
- Comfort working with diverse materials and unconventional artwork formats
- Experience with Photoshop (required), Lightroom, or Canva
- Basic sewing ability (e.g., mounting fabric works or jerseys)
- Experience with dry-mounting, heat-press work, installation techniques, or handling large-scale works (training provided)
- Valid driver’s licence
