The Position
Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties in the academic building, and occasionally some housekeeping duties in the student residences during the conference season. The Custodian is responsible for health and safety compliance, particularly protocols that have been established to mitigate the spread of infection on Redeemer’s campus.
This is 100%FTE position at 37.5 hrs. / week
Responsibilities
- Vacuum/clean halls, classrooms, offices, and gym
- Clean washrooms and restock paper and soap supplies on a daily basis
- Clean custodial closets regularly and refill containers with environmentally friendly cleaning solutions
- Dust and mop floors.
- Clean walls, doors, and glass/windows
- Operate commercial/heavy equipment to clean floors
- Lift and move furniture for set-up of classrooms, common areas and the gym for events
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Clean lower level interior and exterior windows
- Empty trash receptacles and bag trash for proper disposal
- Change vacuum bags when required
- May be responsible for training and monitoring the work of student employees
- May be responsible for training student employees in safety and infection control procedures
- Perform other duties that are similar in scope and complexity as assigned by supervisor

- ability to meet expected standards of cleanliness and neatness for campus buildings/property
- must possess physical strength/ability to perform the actions of lifting, pulling, pushing, and bending that are necessary to perform job tasks
- ability to supervise and train student employees including the organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling of work assignments
- WHMIS safety certification
Education, Training & Certifications
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous WHMIS and Health & Safety training is an asset
Other Requirements
- Must be a person of good character, demonstrating integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
- Demonstrated success in a similar position
- Shift hours - 8:00am - 4:00pm (including breaks) Note: Occasional work on weekends or on a holiday may be required
