NATURE OF WORK
Reporting to the Director of Higher Learning, the Coordinator of Higher Learning manages the operations, programs and activities pertaining to Higher Learning in support of the Cree School Board (CSB) mission, vision and goals.
In particular, the Coordinator of Higher Learning is responsible for researching, developing, coordinating, planning, supervising and evaluating policies, programs and activities related to current and future higher learning programs of the Cree School Board. The Coordinator of Higher Learning also contributes to the development and implementation of the CSB and departmental strategic action plan and that ensure program alignment and provide expertise and advice when required.
The Coordinator of Higher Learning leads by example, fosters a spirit of teamwork, engages employees and facilitates a workplace culture in keeping with the CSB organizational values.
CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS
This position comprises the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Director of Higher Learning in the development and execution of the annual departmental action plan.
- Support the Director of Higher Learning in the development and monitoring of departmental strategies, objectives, policies and programs. Identify opportunities for adjustment, as required.
- Contribute to the preparation of the departmental budget and monitor the budget of select operations/ projects.
- Participate in the development and implementation of up-to-date efficient and effective systems, databases/ files that respond to the needs of the department while supporting the overall organization and ensuring alignment with legal and governance requirements.
- Participate in the development, implementation of departmental processes, internal procedures and policies and ensure monitoring as well as compliance in line with key performance measures.
- Coordinate the preparation and analysis of select reports and circulate, as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain effective communications and relations within his/her sector, across the CSB and with external stakeholders.
Role-specific Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the Higher Learning strategy for the CSB in order to meet staffing needs and academic/ organizational goals. Monitor and update on a regular basis.
- Develop, coordinate and implement training calendar.
- Develop materials and deliver internal training as required.
- Collaborate with academic institutions in the development and implementation of formal certification programs.
- Foster and maintain relationships with partner education institutions.
- Preparation of draft documents required for the maintenance and creation of programs under the department of Higher Learning.
Prepare and make presentations as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Participate in resource selection and allocation. Ensure supervision, coaching and professional development/training of higher learning team members.
- Establish work priorities and resource requirements for the programs under the department.
- Pursue own professional development in order to enhance personal and organizational capacity and the changing needs of the organization.
- Participate in the technical work of department as required.
- Represent department, as required.
- Any other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate degree in Education or relevant field.
- Brevet an asset.
- 5 years of relevant experience.
- Bilingual - Cree and English.
- Knowledge of French would be an asset.
- Strong technical knowledge in the relevant areas of Education/Higher Education.
- Solid leadership skills with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to Build Trust.
- Solid planning and organization skills.
- Knowledge of Cree worldview. Must be able to create programs that are culturally relevant to the Cree milieu.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across all levels and functions of the Cree School Board and to develop strong organizational knowledge and relationships.
- Results oriented with problem solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage change.
- Ability to build personal and organizational capacity through continuous improvement.
- Ability to promote teamwork within and across departments.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
