1. General Accountability and Overview
The incumbent will assist Participants toward their overall social/employment integration and inclusion in the Agency’s Territory and in New Brunswick and Canada, with the goal of helping them thrive and enjoy greater quality of life in the community by pursuing meaningful employment opportunities and/or prospects for upskilling and learning, via upskilling training, and via a monitored job-placement.
2. Nature and Scope
- The program is humanitarian in nature and scope, and aims to enable, empower and motivate newcomer youth in their pursuits of happiness toward fulfilling the promise of the Canadian dream.
- Reporting to the Employment Manager on a day-to-day basis at the Saint John Newcomers Centre (SJNC), and working closely with and reporting at regular intervals to the Provincial Lead of the New Brunswick Multicultural Council (NBMC), the incumbent is responsible for:
(a) assisting where and when needed in the Agency’s recruitment and Pre-screening efforts of eligible Participants into the program during the Intake Process;
(b) training/instructing Participants to help them improve their job-readiness, career-planning, and career prospects preparedness in line with their own career aspirations;
(c) assisting participants in planning for their successful program job-placement and monitoring their job-placement progress;
(d) planning for and celebrating with participants at the end-of-program event;
(e) monitoring Participant progress after the program ends with regular follow-up conferencing.
(f) taking daily attendance and writing reports of activities.
(g) other duties as assigned
3. Organizational Structure
- Reports vertically to the Provincial Lead for the SKY phases and activities at regular intervals.
- Reports/collaborates vertically-and-horizontally day-to-day with the SJNC Employment Manager.
- Horizontal collaboration with other coordinating instructors of the SKY for the successful and harmonious delivery of the SKY activities to Participants.

4. Dimensions
- One Full-time equivalence (FTE), Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 5PM, per the Current Timetable, respecting established statutory holidays.
- Working hours at 40 hours per week variable.
- One-year contract with possibility of renewal.
- Work and travel on evenings and weekends for activities across the region will sometimes be required in this position. The incumbent will have the option to manage their own schedule to meet the position requirements effectively.
- Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.
5. Duties and Responsibilities
- Fulfilling the Coordinating Instructor pertinent duties to the SKY phases and activities
- Delivering training during SKY-Core.
- Facilitating the success and monitoring of SKY-Work.
- Preparing for and participating in SKY-Exit celebrations.
- Conferencing with Participants during SKY-Orbit.
- Utilizing 2 weeks (approximately) in between each course launch cycle (every 4 months) to adequately prepare, complete reports, improve materials, etc., for the next cohort of the course
6. Qualifications and requirements:
- One (1) year of post-secondary studies in a discipline related to the position.
- Two (2) years of experience in a discipline deemed relevant to the position.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Prior experience in serving newcomers with diverse ethnic, religious or cultural backgrounds is considered an asset.
- Bilingual in English and French would be considered an asset.
- A criminal record check is a condition of employment.
- Must be able to commute regularly to meetings locally and provincially, as required; a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset for the role.
7. Knowledge:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and/or openness to using and becoming familiar with other digital office suites, (i.e. Google Sheets, Open Office, etc.)
- Strong communication and writing skills, and ability to imparting these skills in a classroom environment to young adults.
- General familiarity with occupational classification standards in Canada, and essential skills-levels.
- General familiarity with local economic and community development and multiculturalism.
8. Aptitudes:
- Able to develop trust and rapport relationships with Participants and stakeholders, with a positive and resourceful mindset.
- Able to plan, organize and prioritize planning curricula, materials, and training in a classroom.
- Able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, and capable of partnering and working with other community organizations and immigration service providers at the local and provincial levels.
- Able to exercise tact in communicating and negotiating with, influencing and serving internal and external stakeholders.
- Discretion, confidentiality and compliance with the Privacy Act.
