Summary

The role of Construction Director is to oversee the successful, profitable and timely completion of all construction projects within their scope.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees all construction projects from inception to completion
  • Mentors and coaches team members including design and PM’s
  • Manages and develops team members
  • Leads the planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for all projects within the region
  • Collaborates with design teams, workplace teams, and client directors to ensure mutually beneficial completion of all projects
  • Drives operational excellence and efficiency, recommends areas for improvement when possible
  • Continuously pursue a culture of ‘Safety at all times’ while actively engaging employees, subcontractors, and vendors to reinforce safe behaviors at all job sites.
  • Engages in business/relationship development amongst Clients
  • Leads in the proposal process for new and negotiated work
  • Leads the contract management of all projects
  • Leads the risk management process for all projects and implements mitigation measures
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
  • Maintain or improve on-time delivery and maximize delivery turnaround and continuously improve communication to maximize customer experience.
  • Review construction project budget estimates.
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules.
  • Review contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs.
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients.
  • Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • A university degree in civil engineering or a college diploma in construction technology is usually required with 15+ years of experience on progressively managerial positions.
  • Extensive experience in the construction industry may substitute for post-secondary education requirements.
  • Professional engineering status or construction trade certification may be an asset.
