Reporting to the Industrial Safety and Security Coordinator, the Industrial Safety and Security Advisor will provide support with regard to the safety aspects of operations at the Windfall exploration site and industrial security. He or she will work closely with members of the technical services, as well as with personnel from various associated companies, external consultants, and other members of the company, depending on the projects and expected results. Based at the Windfall site, located in the Northern Quebec region, he or she will be required to work on a 15-day work schedule followed by 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation, and meals provided.
Duties and responsibilities
- Enforce safe work practices and reinforce safety policies, guidelines, and procedures established by the Company;
Provide advice (line coaching) and ensure the day-to-day management of safety programs at the employee and supervisor levels to ensure a common and effective approach;
Work closely with nursing staff on a preventive basis;
Conduct workplace inspections, safety analyses and task observations, and compliance audits;
Support supervisors and managers during accident investigations and analyses;
Support supervisors and managers in their prevention activities;
Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property comply with safety policies and requirements;
Implement and contribute to site training plans by providing orientation sessions to employees and certain specialized health and safety training;
Collaborate with the CNESST inspector as needed;
Support the emergency response coordinator by assisting in maintaining and complying with emergency and disaster prevention plans and procedures on site;
Maintain filing systems for information related to worker training and safety;
Support operational teams in developing risk analyses;
Participate in the health and safety committee and various related tasks as needed;
Provide technical support to OHS software users;
Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules and ensure that staff comply with these rules;
Perform any other duties related to the position of industrial safety and security advisor that are relevant to the success of the project.
Qualifications required
Hold a technical degree in occupational health and safety or a certificate in occupational health and safety, or a combination of experience and education may be considered;
Have experience in health and safety as well as in mining;
Mining modules (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7), (an asset);
Valid Class 5 driver's license;
Explosives license;
Bilingualism (will be required to communicate with English-speaking workers), (an asset).
Technical skills
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation in mining;
Proficiency in Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Basic skills
Ability to work in a team through collaboration, information sharing, and efficient communication;
Good organizational, planning, and priority management skills;
Good written and verbal communication skills;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
Ability to work in remote locations.
