The Community Wellness Facilitator is a key member of Carya’s Multigenerational Wellness team, responsible for planning and facilitating accessible, community-based programs that foster participation, connection, and well-being at Carya’s Village Commons location in East Village.

The nature of this role is responsive, flexible, and complementary to Carya’s existing programming strengths. It requires flexibility regarding the target population, as well as workdays and hours. Evening and weekend work is required and may vary seasonally.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Program Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and deliver a seasonal calendar of arts-based, recreational, and personal development programs for diverse community members, aligned with the broader Multigenerational Wellness offerings.
  • Leverage existing program assets, including funded initiatives, an Artist in Residence, and a small, contracted services budget, to engage and inspire community participation.
  • Design programs that are inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible, addressing barriers related to mobility, cognition, finances, and technology.
  • Incorporate data collection and evaluation tools into all program offerings; ensure timely and accurate data maintenance.
  • Promote programs and increase community awareness through targeted engagement strategies and participation in special events.

Facilitation & Engagement

  • Facilitate engaging and creative group sessions that foster connection, self-expression, and personal growth through art, recreation, and diverse interests.
  • Build trusting relationships through one-on-one support, group facilitation, and active community presence.
  • Co-create program content with participants, integrating their voices, strengths, and goals.
  • Apply evidence-informed and trauma-informed approaches, including social-emotional learning strategies and adult learning principles.
  • Support mental wellness and reduce isolation by offering accessible and meaningful activities.
  • Adapt facilitation methods to suit various settings and participant needs, including older adults, families, individuals, and intergenerational groups.
  • Encourage the development of natural supports and peer relationships within groups.
  • Provide light-touch support and referrals as needed, including conducting basic risk assessments and safety planning.

Relationships and Collaborations

  • Maintain strong, responsive relationships with participants, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Demonstrate initiative and confidence in independently starting tasks and pursuing new ideas.
  • Foster welcoming, inclusive environments where participants feel a sense of belonging and agency.
  • Apply a strengths-based, solutions-focused mindset when working in dynamic or uncertain environments.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, community-driven programming.
  • Incorporate participant feedback and emerging needs into future planning and facilitation practices.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services-related, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience working in the human-services field.
  • Familiarity with the social impact or nonprofit sector is an asset.
  • Experience planning and/or facilitating arts-based or recreation programs, with a strong focus on wellness and meeting the needs of vulnerable participants, is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
  • Ability to work with existing resources and within an established budget.
  • Proven facilitation and presentation skills, along with strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to utilize a strength-based, participant-centered approach.
  • Enthusiasm for and experience in working with diverse populations
  • A positive attitude and the ability to balance a commitment to quality service are essential.
  • Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A positive, service-oriented attitude with a commitment to quality and follow-through.
  • Completion of Natural Supports Framework training required is an asset.
  • Certification with the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative’s Core Brain Story is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 with a focus on SharePoint, Word, Teams, and Outlook; familiarity in Excel.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize your emails and calendar.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and insurance are required.

The successful applicant will receive a comprehensive total compensation package including:
