Community Nutrition Worker 1 FTE -Contract to March 31st, 2027

One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services. We are currently seeking a contract 1 FTE Community Nutrition Worker, as a valuable member of the Community Health Centres’ team who will ensure the availability of a range of resources and health and nutrition services aimed at improving health and well-being for racialized youth (Black, Indigenous, newcomers, non-insured, 2SLGBTQIA+.This role is crucial in addressing the impact of food insecurity experienced by providing culturally sensitive clinical interventions that respect food traditions and preferences. The position has a competitive salary, the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan and an excellent group health benefit package.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post – secondary education in food and nutrition or a related field. • Two to three years of experience developing and implementing nutrition education programs tailored to specific community needs. • Safe Food Handling Certification • Experienced food shopper and cook with knowledge about basic nutrition, food safety, selection, preparation and storage. • Proven experience working in community-based programs and ability to implement participant driven programs. • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and advocate for services and to engage clients in their care. • Ability to work well independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. • Sensitivity to the needs of a multicultural community and the impacts of social, economic and cultural issues on health and well-being. • Strong interpersonal, organizational and group facilitation skills. • Experience with Black/Indigenous, seniors and youth populations is a strong asset.
• Awareness of and sensitive to health issues particularly within individuals who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, non-insured). • A current driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
