    Position Summary:
    Reporting to the Clinical Team Manager, the Community Addictions Worker provides alcohol, drug, Impaired Drivers Program and gambling assessments, counselling, education and support services to residents of the Interlake-Eastern RHA. Participation in program development is an expectation, with the capacity to work in other program areas as required. The position requires a commitment to a client-centred philosophy and approach to the development, provision and support of programs and services.

    The position of Community Addictions Worker functions in a manner consistent with, and supports the mission, vision and values of the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.


    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences or related field with a minimum of one year supervised counselling experience (or volunteer experience); working in the addictions field an asset or a Diploma in applied counselling with a minimum of two years supervised counselling experience (or volunteer experience); working in the addictions field an asset.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to assessment and individual counselling.
    • Knowledge of the addictions field and community development processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to work within a complex system of services.
    • Experience working from a client centered perspective and training and/or experience in the utilization of Motivational Interviewing techniques is essential.
    • Experience in planning, preparing and presenting educational material is an asset.
    • Effective communication and problem-solving skills are required.
    • An understanding of, and sensitivity to, working with culturally diverse populations is essential.
    • Fluency in English is required and French verbal and written is an asset.
    • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Demonstrates the ability to operate Microsoft software applications,
    • Internet and email communications.
    • Mental and physical ability to meet the demands of the position.
    • Completes and maintains a satisfactory pre-employment security check.
    • Satisfactory employment record.
