Glengarry Farm Finance Corporation is Canada’s first alternative agricultural mortgage lender, designed to help farms obtain bridge financing when dealing with unexpected circumstances. Our loan business is focused on farming operations located in Ontario and Canada’s western provinces. We are recruiting for a Funding Officer at our Toronto office location. There may be some work-from-home flexibility for the right candidate.
Our Funder ideally has experience with agricultural and/or private loans. You will be working in the treasury department in collaboration with the credit team closing loans with complex security and multiple lenders (syndicates).
There will be occasional need to work with and communicate directly with clients, brokers, and accountants to follow up on files, so communication and collaboration skills in all forms are important.
This position will require a high degree of autonomy, requiring deep expertise and the ability to make funding decisions independently.
The role will encompass the following duties:
- Loan Setup & Documentation
- Review and input loan details, legal descriptions, insurance, and registration information into internal systems (Mortgage Automator).
- Generate, circulate, and manage loan documentation including commitment letters, onboarding letters, IC credit memos, renewal letters
- Ensure accurate maintenance of all loan-related data and documentation throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Due Diligence & Compliance
- Coordinate and conduct conflict of interest (COI) and anti-money laundering (AML) searches with lawyers and third-party servicers.
- Review borrower and solicitor documentation for compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
- Ensure security documents and other legal forms meet investor standards
- Solicitor Instruction & Coordination
- Instruct and mandate solicitors for loan transactions by preparing and sending legal instructions via secure platform
- Set up borrower’s solicitor in the system and coordinate the flow of information and documents.
- Review solicitor reporting (initial, interim, and final), track outstanding requirements, and ensure all legal conditions are met prior to funding or discharge.
- Obtain and review discharge documents from borrower’s counsel; coordinate execution to ensure timely filing at Land Titles Office.
- Deposit & Disbursement Management
- Provide solicitor banking details to borrowers/brokers; confirm receipt of deposit funds and coordinate return when necessary.
- Process and record loan advances, including generating statements of advance, submitting funding requests to treasury, and updating system records accordingly.
- Diarize key dates for financial reporting, solicitor reporting, and interest rate adjustments.
- Renewals & Discharges
- Manage loan renewals, including preparation and issuance of renewal letters, tracking of renewal conditions, and processing renewals in Mortgage Automator.
- Collect renewal fees and ensure system updates reflect current loan status and terms.
- Oversee full discharge process including legal review, execution of discharge documents, system updates, and file closure.
- Investor & Treasury Coordination
- Arrange loan security and documentation in accordance with investor requirements.
- Communicate capital call and funding requests to treasury and investors in a timely and accurate manner.
- Audit & Reporting
- Compile and upload required documentation for audits (e.g., MNP) to secure portals.
- Maintain clear records and document trail for all funding transactions and loan files.
- General Administration & Communication
- Serve as the main point of contact for internal teams, solicitors, brokers, and borrowers for funding-related matters.
- Take detailed notes during IC (Investment Committee) meetings and support follow-up actions.
- Upload, organize, and archive all documents to appropriate platforms (e.g., MA, shared drives).
Nice to have:
- Financial data analysis experience
- Knowledge of lending software, such as Filogix or Mortgage Automator
- Experience with loan servicing for cross-disciplinary coverage.
Minimum Education Qualifications:
Post secondary education (legal preferred), and minimum three years commercial funding with exposure to agriculture. Applicants with family farm experience are welcome to apply if funding background is solely commercial with no ag lending exposure.
