Seeking a Cognitive Behavior Therapy practitioner with practical experience working with survivors of mild to moderate brain injuries or a willingness to work with such survivors. This is 7.5 hours a week.
This position could be a great match for a Masters of Counselling student who is working part time. We understand you may have long term plans and know that this role will give you great experience in reaching them. We have a psychotherapist on staff who would work closely with you. She would share insights and provide mentoring.
We are interested in folks who have their degree as well. This can include a Master’s degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Social Work or related discipline. The ideal candidate is registered (or eligible) to register with a counselling association such as the CCPA, BCCSW, or BCACC. A diploma in professional counselling that is recognized and approved by the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA) will also be considered.
The right person will be an independent worker who is self-directed and able to effectively link to Life Skills Workers to achieve practical improvements in client quality of life. They will need to handle a caseload of approximately 10 people at a time. They will need to perform effective evaluations, keep reasonable notes and share information with social workers. We keep counselling confidential, but work closely with the social work team to determine eligibility and issues arising.
We are seeking someone who can work part time providing one on one counseling to brain injury survivors who are dealing with a variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety and family conflict. The person would run some group counseling, but the bulk of the work is one on one. We need an effective CBT practitioner who is able to adapt to the special and individual needs of individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. The counselor would also work with family members of brain injury survivors on occasion. Flexibility and creativity in how you work are a must. We strongly prefer in person counseling, but the practitioner must be able to work both on Zoom and in person.
The successful applicant must be able to coordinate a care plan with social workers, establish the counselling plan and implement this program. The person may be called on to assist in some grant writing in an effort to secure future funding. They must be able to establish a credible counselling practice and work as part of a larger, non-counseling team. We are a non-profit agency committed to providing excellent support to survivors and need someone who is cost conscious and focused on assisting those who could not otherwise access counselling. We are very practical, not theoretical or ideological. The position is based in Kamloops.
A Master's degree is preferred, but anyone with meaningful practical CBT experience would have a competitive application. Survivors of brain injury present different challenges to the practitioner and experience with TBI survivors is particularly valuable for this post. EMDR training is an asset and trauma informed practice will be extensively used. The equivalent of one day a week of work is expected.
We are a small non-profit that has an excellent work environment. However, we are not rich and work more for glory than for profit.
Please submit a current CV and one page cover letter explaining why you would be the best applicant for this post, via the Indeed app.
Thanks for reading this far. As a bonus, and an insight into our sense of humour, let me share that we will not review applications who don't do the cover letter. Really, if someone can't be bothered to read about the job and type a few words, why should we be bothered to talk to them? We want someone who is serious enough to read all the details, but who can also have a laugh at the strange things we humans sometimes do.
