Position: Climbing Wall Attendant
Department: Community Sport
Position Type: Auxiliary (hours may vary, evening and weekends required)


Are you passionate about climbing and love helping others reach new heights? The Richmond Olympic Oval is looking for Climbing Wall Attendants to join our Community Sport team. In this front-line role, you'll provide exceptional customer service, foster a positive and inclusive environment, and ensure the safety and smooth operation of our iconic 4-storey climbing wall. Whether you're greeting guests, conducting belay checks, or sharing your climbing knowledge, you'll be part of creating an unforgettable experience for every visitor.


Key Responsibilities:

    • Greet and check in guests, provide orientations and belay tests, and foster a welcoming environment for all climbing wall users.
    • Monitor climbing wall use, participant behavior, and belaying techniques to ensure safety and adherence to protocols.
    • Inspect climbing gear and equipment for wear and tear, and report issues in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Support and promote youth and adult climbing programs by sharing information and encouraging participation.
    • Build relationships with regular climbers, support their goals, and help create a positive climbing culture.
    • Communicate client and coworker feedback to the Climbing Wall Shift Leads and Sport Climbing Programmer to improve the member experience.
    • Work collaboratively with the climbing team to manage wall usage during open hours and ensure smooth daily operations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

    • Valid First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification.
    • Completion of or working toward Climbing Gym Instructor Level 1 or 2 (ACMG) or equivalent is an asset.
    • Personal climbing ability of V2 or higher.
    • Route setting or coaching experience is an asset.
    • Successful completion of a criminal record check.

Skills and Abilities

    • Strong customer service and communication skills.
    • Optimistic, personable, and enthusiastic about climbing.
    • Ability to self-direct, take initiative, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Knowledge of climbing equipment and belay techniques.
    • Reliable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.

Compensation range: $18.64 - $22.37 plus 12% in lieu of benefits (hourly rate is based on qualifications and experience)
