The Opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor of Court Clerks, the Clerk of the Court provides operational support to the Whitehorse Court Registry and administrative support to the Territorial, Small Claims, Supreme, and Court of Appeal courts of Yukon. This position is primarily responsible keeping an accurate record of court proceedings, including digitally recording them. In addition to keeping the official record (writing down the results of the court proceedings), the incumbent is responsible for calling cases in court, preparing and signing court orders, preparing court records for judicial review, and filing and processing legal documents in accordance with court forms, practice directives, rules and applicable legislation. The position also provides legal information and assistance to court stakeholders with respect to criminal and civil court procedures. The incumbent handles a high volume of sensitive and confidential information and is expected to meet high standards of tact, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
We are looking for a professional individual who is organized, self-motivated, detail oriented, service-oriented, able to perform under pressure, and who excels in highly technical administrative work.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information provided in your resume.
- Successful completion of a post-secondary program preferably with a legal focus;
- Experience providing administrative support to senior management, preferably in a legal environment;
- Experience applying court rules, regulations, and procedures in court operations or other judicial venue an asset;
- Experience performing court clerk responsibilities would be an asset; and
- Experience researching and applying legislation and regulations would be an asset.
Candidates who have education, training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

- Understanding of judicial independence;
- Ability to learn to operate technology, such as videoconferencing, audio recording equipment and software; and
- Computer skills and working-knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Security clearance to be submitted prior to start date and maintained throughout the term of employmentJob requirements:
- Frequent travel for court circuit by small plane and motor vehicle
- Working overtime with little or no notice including coverage of weekend bail court
- Ability to lift or carry equipment between 25 lbs and 50 lbs as required
- Wearing court attire while in court
