Purpose of the Role
The Child Protection Case Aid supports Protection Workers in carrying out the daily activities associated with child protection investigations, case management, and family support. This role provides practical, logistical, and relational support to ensure that the safety, care, and cultural needs of children and families are met across the Child Welfare continuum.

Operating under the legal framework of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) and Indigenous law, the Case Aid works in collaboration with service teams to provide trauma-informed, community-rooted support that upholds the child’s best interest and Nation-based decision-making.

Core Responsibilities

1. Field and Office Support for Protection Workers

  • Assist with delivering documents, supporting home visits, or gathering case-related information
  • Accompany Protection Workers on visits or investigations where required for safety or logistical reasons
  • Prepare case files, activity logs, and non-clinical correspondence under worker direction

2. Client and Family Assistance

  • Provide direct support to families involved in child protection, including transportation, supervised access, and practical supports
  • Assist in organizing meetings, case conferences, or cultural gatherings
  • Support engagement with family members, Band Representatives, and community supports as appropriate

3. Documentation and Record Maintenance

  • Maintain case-related documents, appointment logs, and service tracking forms
  • Support data entry into child welfare systems, including CPIN or agency-specific databases
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality in all records and correspondence

4. Child-Centered Support Activities

  • Assist in providing care, supervision, and advocacy for children and youth during visits, transitions, or court processes
  • Coordinate delivery of clothing, food, school supplies, or other necessities
  • Support cultural and recreational engagement where appropriate

5. Cultural and Relational Practice

  • Uphold culturally safe, respectful approaches to all work with families and children
  • Recognize and respond to Nation-based customs, kinship structures, and traditional care models
  • Collaborate with Elders, Band Representatives, and Knowledge Keepers as directed by caseworkers or supervisors

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent required
  • College coursework in Child and Youth Work, Indigenous Studies, or Social Services is an asset
  • Prior experience working with children, youth, or vulnerable families preferred
  • Understanding of child protection practices, confidentiality, and cultural safety principles
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environments

Conditions of Employment

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel regularly
  • Physical ability to support young children and manage transport logistics
