Acorn Family Place is a multi-service family resource centre providing support, enhancing education, and fostering community. We work together to strengthen children and families on the challenging journey of living and growing.
The goal of the Caring Dads Facilitator is to support male-identifying parents and caregivers to build skills and enhance safety and wellbeing within their family relationships through engagement with the Caring Dads workshop series. This role will focus primarily on creating a safe and engaging group environment and facilitation weekly workshops.
Hours: 15 Hours/week
Compensation: $22-24/hour commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus 6% vacation, and benefits including group disability, life insurance, pension, EAP, health and dental package
Location: Work in-person on location at 222 Furby Street.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Plan, promote, and facilitate two 17 week sessions of Caring Dads per year
- Work in collaboration with AFP Parenting Coordinator to ensure empowering participant enrollment, engagement and retention in workshop series
- Complete Caring Dads Facilitator Training and other related trainings as directed
- Ahere to Caring Dads program model including facilitating mid-point meetings with participants and their supports, and writing final letters of support for participants
- Maintain positive partnerships with stakeholders and referral partners
- Complete effective, organized, and accurate documentation for reporting and evaluation
- Support individual parents and caregivers with their parenting-related goals and challenges through coaching in workshops, information sharing, referrals, and advocacy
The ideal candidate will have:
- Training and experience facilitating group workshops or parenting classes, with an engaging facilitation style
- Experience supporting and advocating for parents/families and liaising with systems including CFS, EIA, and Justice
- Experience supporting families who have experienced violence, and an understanding of local intimate partner violence resources
- A comprehensive understanding of the experience of fathers and male-identified care givers – lived experience is an asset
- An approach to community work that includes restorative justice, reconciliation, and anti-oppressive practise
- Ability to engage with participants in a way that is culturally safe and relevant
- Strong organizational skills, ability to self-manage to achieve priorities and meet deadlines
- Self-awareness, integrity, and the ability to balance a caring approach with professional boundaries
- Administrative skills including writing, work planning, computer use (Microsoft Office), data and file management
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal – ability to adapt to different audiences
- The ability to collaborate, and work as a team
- An understanding of the impacts of colonialism, racism, trauma, poverty, mental health, and other factors, on the lives of families
