The senior business analyst – information services works closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to create both business and functional requirements and guide the process from idea inception to delivery.

This position will assist the manager, information systems and data with the business analysis, project management of multiple complex projects, implementation and technical support for chosen technology.

The senior business analyst – information services will coordinate cross-functional teams in mapping out and solving business problems, developing business requirements, work plans and technical specifications, as well as performing system and user tests, preparing documentation and training users.

What you do:
  • Provide input for business planning and participate in the project planning process. Identify opportunities for improvement and/or enhancements opportunities of existing business applications and processes; implement these improvements through effective leadership and engagement of others.
  • Develop overall maintenance and upgrades plans for major VFPA business applications.
  • Work with internal and external customers to identify and validate specific business and user requirements.
  • Utilize artifacts such as business requirements documents (BRDs), JIRA, data analysis and Business Process Documentation, facilitates requirements alignment sessions
  • Determine system needs to ensure project deliverables meet customer expectations.
  • Create technical specifications for delivering customer solutions.
  • Participate in the implementation and transition of project outcomes to the appropriate area(s).
  • Work with the project team to develop and conduct user and support training.
  • Oversight of consultants to develop and implement solutions aligned with agreed upon specifications.
  • Ensure change control and IS change management procedures are followed within the project team as they relate to requirements
  • Participate in the project close out and lessons learned activities to validate solutions with the business to ensure delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Identify integration opportunities and overlaps among VFPA business applications; recommend improvements and enhancements. Resolve application and data integration issues as required
  • Participate in determining and acquiring development resources (people, hardware and software).
  • Design systems specifications, modules, and process changes.
  • Document current and future/desired processes
  • Develop testing approach and plans and conduct testing to assure quality delivery.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance, support and troubleshooting to VFPA business applications and processes.
  • Interact with users and anticipate user needs on a regular basis.
  • Provide technical input directed toward the evaluation and acquisition of new systems and/or enhancements of existing systems.
  • Prepare RFPs and / or requirement specifications to evaluate proposal submissions.

What you bring:

  • A post-secondary degree in computer science, business administration or another acceptable area.
  • A minimum of five years’ related experience, including recent proven leadership on business analysis, project management and user requirement gathering in complex business environments.
  • Experience working with both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies is required, and well as proficiency in tools like Visio, Jira, Sharepoint and MS Project.
  • Must also have proficiency in modern programming languages, data management, analysis and reporting tools for assigned applications.
  • Strong preference for those with a passion and dedication to ongoing professional development (i.e. Business Analyst Certification).
  • Software development experience is an asset.
    Must value maintaining their technology skills and acts proactively to stay abreast of advances in their areas of expertise.
  • Proficiency in tools like Visio, Jira, SharePoint and MS Project is required.
  • Ability to communicate with people of various technical and business backgrounds, including the ability to explain difficult technical concepts in simple terms to business users.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as the ability to communicate both technically and non-technically.
  • This individual must have good organizational skills and the ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player with an excellent “customer service” approach and a strong dedication to quality customer service.
  • Must have strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a quickly changing environment.
