BC Place Stadium is hiring a Building Security Medic to join the Safety & Security team.
Working as part of the Facility’s Workplace Health & Safety Team, the Building Security Medic is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks related to the safe operation of the Stadium and facility owned grounds around the Stadium. The primary function of the Building Security Medic is to respond to medical incidents involving BC Place employees, contract employees, visitors & guests, and maintain first aid equipment and supplies at an operational level.
This role is also responsible for collaborating with Control Room Security staff in monitoring the control room, interior and exterior security of the building, including surveillance, access control and asset protection of BC Place and its property. In this dual role, the Building Security Medic will augment the Control Room security staff on internal & external building patrols, provide assistance to staff, guests, visitors & contractors while also responding to the first aid needs of all persons on BC Place Stadium property. The Building Security Medic is expected to work in a safe manner and follow all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Follow and enforce BC Place policies, procedures, code of conduct and health & safety guidelines;
- Assess and evaluate all injuries and illnesses, both workplace & those sustained elsewhere;
- Respond to all building emergencies, including guest and facility-related emergencies, in a lead or supportive role; assist with the emergency procedures, including evacuations;
- Provide treatment to the injured or ill person until a higher level of care (BC Emergency Health Services) takes over care of the person to transfer to a health care facility;
- Determine if and when an injured person should seek medical aid at a health facility or other location for further treatment;
- Complete comprehensive First Aid Reports, for all workplace injuries, or manifestations of disease;
- Complete comprehensive security and/or observation reports, as required;
- Assist Building Security in emergency situations;
- Act as Event First Aid Team Lead during event days and whenever required;
- Ensure only authorized persons are permitted access to the building and or secure areas;
- Physical protection responsibilities include asset protection, workplace violence prevention, access control systems, video surveillance, and others;
- Monitor/control building systems as needed, through the in-house Building Automation System;
- Monitor alarms and surveillance system and take appropriate action on any incident which may result in loss or damage to property or equipment, or any incident that would endanger the safety of employees and guests;
- Conduct scheduled patrols inside and outside the building to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and other threats;
- Investigate and complete Incident Reports, in situations like property damage, thefts and assault;
- Maintain the Facility First Aid rooms in a clean and orderly manner;
- Perform Facility First Aid department maintenance tasks as assigned;
- Able to work within a 4-on, 4-off 12 hour shift rotation (0700 – 1900, 1900 – 0700 overnight).
- Perform other duties as required.
- Valid Advanced First Aid (Occupational First Aid Certificate Level 3) required, and additional higher-level medical training an asset;
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a First Aid Attendant preferred;
- Valid BC Security Worker License (BST), AST training an asset;
- Valid driver’s licence required to operate mobile transport units throughout the facility;
- Experience in a similar role in the event or service industry an asset;
- Able to lift objects in excess of 30kg and lift and carry objects weighing up to 25kg;
- Digital literacy with MS Office, experience using surveillance applications an asset;
- Fluent in English with additional language(s) an asset;
- Excellent communication, initiative and conflict resolution skills;
- Physically fit, and able to conduct extensive foot patrols both indoors and outdoors in a range of weather conditions;
- Demonstrated interest and experience in serving the public;
- Positive and professional attitude, with strong customer service skills;
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner, including strong de-escalation skills;
- Ability to work within a collaborative team environment.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $28.67
