Role Overview:
This position serves as the intermediary between the shipper, who needs to move their cargo, and the carrier that has the means to do so. Using a network of trucking companies, the Broker provides truck and trailer capacity for shippers to get their freight to its destination. This role is critical in ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the day-to-day brokering process and all related logistics activities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate communication with carriers, gather shipment status updates, and promptly relay them to customers.
- Track and trace shipments across Canada and the U.S., ensuring timely updates and entries in TruckMate or related TMS systems.
- Maintain clear communication with carriers, customers, and internal portals to provide real-time updates on freight movement.
- Assist carriers at all points of the logistics process to ensure smooth and efficient freight handling.
- Schedule pick-up and delivery appointments and coordinate third-party services when required for long-haul shipments.
- Manage a portfolio of carriers dedicated to specific shipping corridors and lanes.
- Accurately build and rate loads, ensuring all data is reflected correctly across internal software systems.
- Identify and document extra charges, update systems accordingly, and coordinate billing information with the Finance team.
- Ensure all contracted carriers are properly vetted and documented with signed contracts, insurance, and compliance records.
- Complete all loads with accurate in/out times and ensure systems reflect real-time status.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the transportation industry, preferably in cross-border brokerage or logistics.
- Sales or customer service experience is a strong asset.
- Experience in quoting, rating, and RFP (Request for Proposal) management is an advantage.
- Proficiency in TMS platforms such as TruckMate or similar.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Strong computer literacy and fast typing speed, especially for real-time communication.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Work Schedule
- Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $42,000.00-$48,000.00 per year
