Brake Development Test Supervisor

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced engineer to oversee day-to-day operations in a brake development lab (BDL) that includes two brake-end dynamometers and one full-size chassis dynamometer. This role combines hands-on technical involvement with team leadership, focusing on safe and efficient test execution, union personnel supervision, and data-driven testing support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise unionized test personnel, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and operational policies
- Oversee dynamometer operations, including test setup, execution, and results reporting
- Analyze data from tools such as Laser Vibrometers and Caliper Test Stands
- Provide support to other test areas as needed (e.g., Electromechanical Systems Test Lab)
- Coordinate shipping and handling of test samples and components to engineers and suppliers
- Manage component teardowns in collaboration with suppliers
- Track project budgets and assist in creating purchase orders
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of co-op students in partnership with University of Windsor and ARDC management
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with union, supervisors, management, maintenance, and facilities teams
Work Schedule:
The Brake Development Lab operates 24/7. Occasional coverage on afternoon, midnight, or weekend shifts may be required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Materials Engineering from an accredited institution
- 3+ years of engineering experience in automotive or testing environments
- Previous experience working in a unionized setting
- Legally authorized to work in Canada and able to travel to the U.S. as needed
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of braking and suspension systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, VBA)
- Strong leadership, time management, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with brake system design or testing
- Hands-on lab testing and data analysis experience
- Familiarity with Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter
- Knowledge of Link ProLink software suite
- Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00-$38.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Additional pay:
- Overtime pay
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
